Default Newbie needs help!

This site - http://www.dddesignco.com/html&swf - is slowly driving me mad.

The gallery is the last remaining issue that I just can NOT seem to resolve.
All I want to do is add extra images. There are five in the template, but
clearly, others can be added.

When I try to add new frames/keyframes/move everything forward the number of
required space, the extra images flow over into the next gallery.

Seriously. This HAS to be a simple fix! I have tried everything I can think
of. Then again, I don't REALLY know what I'm looking for which makes things
difficult!

Please please please help. My head is about to explode from the frustration!

Oh, the fla file is here - http://dddesignco.com/html&swf/pp9.fla

Hi Hellcitykitty

Is that a bought template by any chance?
Those things are a mission to edit...depending on the creator.

First thing..Is the gallery XML driven?
meaning, that there is a accompanying .xml file with your Flash Movie.

If not, then the images have to be manually placed inside the flash movie.
Usually pre-made templates have a decent slideshow layout, you just need to
find it in the library.
The GOOD templates only have one movieClip with all the images on separate
frames....Lets hope your template is the good kind. =)

search your library for a movieClip that has all the pictures inside, on
separate frames.
eg..
frame 1 = pic 1, frame 2 = pic 2, and so on.
(double click on the movieClip in the library to open it's timeline)

once you locate it, simply add extra keyframes ( F7 ) and drag your new images
in the new keyframes.

Let me know how you go.

Hiya! Thanks for the reply!

Yes. It is a bought template. And I thought it would be a good introduction to
Flash! HA!

It IS the good kind, but when I insert a new keyframe and the image, it
overflows into the next gallery

Screenshot of Flash here - http://www.dddesignco.com/gallery.jpg

If you have a look on the site - http://www.dddesignco.com/html&swf you can
see what I mean. The first image in the 'Happiness' gallery is supposed to be
in the 'Dreams' gallery. It seems to only take 5 images and I cannot figure out
why.

Any thoughts?

From your screenshot.
if you want to add images on layer 3 for example, and they overlap the images on layer 2 and layer 1... simply add extra frames in front of the images on layers 1 and 2 ( F5 )

Ok, I was trying to add the images to layer one.

So I click on the first frame of layer one and 'insert frame' then copy in the
image, then insert a blank frame in layers 2 and 3?

Sory if this seems glaringly obvious, but I'm pretty sure I did try doing that
and it still overlapped for some reason.

Yep. Tried it again. It's doing the same thing. I really can't see why. It doesn't make any sense!!

This template is a bit of a mess, but after alot of search, I found the culprit.

Goto symbol 46 in the library and with the symbol on stage selected, look in
your Actions panel.
Now change ALL the "5" values to the number of images you have in your gallery.

As far as I can tell, this isnt a very well thought of gallery. you NEED to
have the same amount of images in all categories, otherwise it wont work right.

I found some hidden code in symbol 75 related to the gallery.

good luck.

Seriously - you are made of awesome! That worked. THANKYOU!

However...

Still getting an overlap. WTH am I doing wrong! I've added an extra space, but
it's not happening. The first image on the second gallery is the second last
image from the first. Then the first image from the second gallery doesn't show
up until half way through. The order is all off.

If you have any ideas on that I promise to nick off and never annoy you again!

This template is the devil. I have learned a valuable lesson. Blah.

you're welcome. =)

umm.. as for the overlapping of images, there must be another variable
somewhere in the movie...probably hidden away somewhere.

ok. heres what I know so far about the gallery.
Each category is controled by the little squares on the right side (symbol 46)
the code there controls which image shows..but also limits the images to
however many images you have in each category. (the numbers i told you to
change)

this is all basic Math as far as I can see.
The variable I think you're looking for tells the squares on the side "from
where" to start the slide.
This variable is most likely changed when pressing the gallery buttons.

say for instance you have 5 images in your gallery. (all 3 galleries must have
same number of images)
If you click the button to view the First gallery, this 'variable' you're
looking for will have the value of 0 (zero).
Therefore when you view each image in the gallery the squares on the side
would say something like:
gotoAndStop(p+variable);
p is equal to 1 from the beginning (frame 1 _root timeline) so 1 + 0 = 1
display the first image.

still with me?? =)

now say you click on the second gallery. That variable has to change to 5.
resulting in
1 + 5 = 6. display the 6th image first.

I hope you understood that. =)

Start by studying what the code on the _root timeline does. There is some if()
statements there, I cant remember the code. but that controls something to do
with the gallery.
(the code i mean is at around frame 100 or so..you cant miss it, its about 6
lines of code)

Whew! Thanks heaps for taking the time to help me out with this! You're the
only one who's braved it!

It's all up and working well, but that overlap WILL NOT DIE. Could I really
push my luck and have you take one last look and see if anything jumps out at
you that I've missed?

And again - thankyou SO much!

Dominique
