Default Some advise on the VERY basics..

Hello...
I am obviously new to this NG and though I have been involved in computers
for over 20 years I have the expertise and skills of a 20 day old baby when
it comes to web design. Quite recently I purchased Dreamweaver 8 with the
intents of setting up my websites. Previously I sort of had a site with
Frontpage but even that faltered and failed. The only problem is I am
completely lost when it comes to understanding how websites are set up. Can
anyone recommend a good resource for learning about such basic things as ftp
protocols, how subdomains are setup and function etc. This is to say nothing
of the numerous different scripts. I have searched high and low but while
I have learned little snippets of information. I can't seem to find any
resources that pull it all together for me to say nothing of the underlying
knowledge base. I realize that this group is about Dreamweaver and though I
hope to become proficient in it fairly soon. As it stands now I can't even
grasp the basics of the ftp semantics.

Many thanks,

Andrew
