I am working on a MacBook Pro. I have created a logo in Freehand . It consists
simply of type over a black box with a silver no-fill rectangle as a border. I converted my fonts to paths, grouped all of the pieces, and I tried to export the logo (selected objects only) to Generic EPS. It seemed as though it was working. There was no error message. However when I looked in the Finder, the file was not there. I tried again, and was surprised that I didn't even get a "replace this file?" error message. It really looked like it processed the export, there's just no exported file. When that didn't work, I directed the program to export, selected objects only, to Mac EPS, Photoshop3 EPS, etc. Nothing worked. The file just doesn't export. I work almost exclusively on the web. I export to JPEG files all day long without a problem. I've even done BMPs without issue. However, this logo is for a print project so I need to have a vector image. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do you think I need to reinstall? I believe that I have the most up-to-date version of Freehand. Thanks in advance for your help. |

FH writes a raster preview when exporting to EPS, and sometimes chokes on very large artwork. It's a memory management issue. FH's EPS Exporter relies heavily on your default Postscript printer when writing an EPS. If you don't have a Postscript printer or Postscript interpreter such as Acrobat Pro installed, I suggest you set up a virtual Postscript formatting printer, select it as your default printer, and try again. Thank you for the advice.
The file is not large (it's a business card) in this version, but I don't have ANY printers installed on the laptop. I usually just put anything I need to print on a USB stick and take it to my desktop (PC). I will try setting up a virtual printer. After I submitted this request for info, I kept messing with the file because I really need to get it exported. I accidentally discovered that if I do not check the box for "selected objects only" the file exports without a problem. My only concern is that I cannot see these files to "proof" them. I tried opening one that was a generic EPS in PhotoShop and it was worthless. There was nothing but a grey dot in the center of an empty page. Hmm. Let me know if that gives you any other thoughts. I am currently downloading the free trial of Adobe Illustrator to see if I have better results. Thanks so much for your suggestion. I will give the printer thing a try. |
