Default Missing Fonts

I'm using FreeHand MX 11.0.2 on Windows XP Pro.
I'm trying to open a file that was created on another PC on our network
containing Futura fonts, and I get a Missing Fonts message telling me that
specified font is not installed on my computer, and it can substitute it with a
different one. When I choose to replace this font with a different one, I
scroll down the list, and I am able to find Futura font; however when I choose
it, it looks different. We had this problem on the other PC at first, and we
ware able to resolve it by copying all fonts from Control Panel into Program
Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts folder. However, this trick did not work on my
PC. We both have the same fonts, the same software versions, the same
configuration, so there's no reason why it doesn't work the same way on both
PCs. I tried copying this font from the other PC, and reinstalling FreeHand,
but still wasn't able to get rid of the problem. FreeHand tech support could
not help me either. Does anyone have an idea how to fix it? Please help!!!

If you put fonts into 'Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts' only Adobe software can find them. FreeHand still is Macromedia product and programmed way before this confusing practice by Adobe, so it can only use fonts installed in Windows/Fonts folder.

This is the best way to use fonts in Windows, I think.

- Use a font manager like Suitcase or MainType.
- Make a well organized fonts folder outside Windows or Program Files folders.
- Clean up Windows fonts folder by moving and organizing all but essential system and web fonts like bitmap fonts, Tahoma, Arial, Verdana, Georgia, etc.
- Move and organize Adobe fonts from Common Files.
- Install 'shortcuts' with the font manager instead of copying the actual font files.
- Uninstall fonts you don't need. This will keep font menu length tolerable. You can also load fonts meaning 'Install Until Restart'.
- Make a backup copy of your new fonts folder.

Default Re: Missing Fonts

I've searched this forum for where my question best fits and this seems close.
However, I am on Macs.

I have a font family that will not show up in MX but is fine in other text
editing programs and also in Photoshop. Its real frustrating as I have many
files 5-15 years old that I have top update and when I open them, it asks for
the font but it is right there in the font folder. If I try to enter new text ,
the bold, italic and bolditalic are not available.

Hte font is New Cent SChoolbook, a postscript font and I ahve screen and
printer fonts there.

Then recently another font named B New Cent SChoolbook bold showed up in the
list and I could choose it and it prints fine but it is NOT in the font folder
and I have no clue where it is coming from.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.
