Open Type features cut and pasted into Freehand? Options?

Aside from AI, are there any vector illustration packages that can handle
accessing the extended character sets of OpenType fonts and convert to
outlines so I could use them in Freehand?

Any open source utilities?

Or is this the final straw that forces me to switch to AI?
