Default FreeHand Mx PDF import problem

:frown;
Using FreeHand Mx. PDFs created from Acrobat 5.0 imported into FreeHand Mx
just fine. Recently updated to Acrobat 8.0 Pro and the PDFs created from that
version do NOT import into FreeHand Mx. I get no error messages, but there is
also no image -- the page is blank and the file can be closed and you get no
prompt to save.

Aren't these (FreeHand and Acrobat) both Adobe products? Seems like they
should work together and that Acrobat 8.0 Pro should not have removed
functionality that existed in a previous Acrobat version.

Anyone got a fix?

Freehand is a discontinued product. Freehand was created before it
Adobe bought Macromedia so they are not 100% compatible.

In Acrobat 8, save the PDF as a version 5 and try that?

In Acrobat/Distiller you can have it save PDFs as 5.0 compatible.

or

If you have Illustrator you can open there first then save as
Illustrator 8, then open in FH.

Technically they are both Adobe "owned" products but FreeHand has never
been developed or even upgraded by Adobe, it is truly still a Macromedia
product, not Adobe.

But FreeHand will not necessarily open it. Import and export filters have always been poor in FH.

It can be iffy, yes, but if he says it was working before in Acrobat 5
and not in Acrobat 8, then chances are it will work if you save as
Acrobat 5.
