Default Lineweight visibility

I recently upgraded to MX and am finally beginning to ween (sp?) myself off
FH10.

Having a tough time w/ the consistency of the operation of the Objects panel,
but somethg I just can't figure out is the behavior of the lineweights. Even
in a new doc, a hairline is larger than a 1pt and sometimes a 1pt looks like a
2pt.

I noticed a postg from JA re a bug in beta which I assume is not fixed in my
version. But I wonder why my lineweights all look the same or at the wrong
thicknesses at the smaller line thicknesses in a new (ungrouped doc)?

Am I missing somethg? A lineweight visibilty setting perhaps...?

Thx

Dennis,

Are you using FH 11.0.2?

Much depends on your magnification level and view mode. At 100%, one pixel
equals 1 point. In Preview (anti-aliased) mode, you won't begin to see
accuracy of .5 pt lines until at least 200% magnification. Even then, lines
are blurred to produce anti-aliasing.

If you can post links to some screen shots to show what you are seeing,
perhaps someone here can advise.

Thx Judy

Yes, I have 11.02 but upgraded from an earlier version.

I may just not be understdg this new Objects panel b/c nothg seems to chg at
any zoom level. Here's a link to a screenshot <
http://insitebuilders.com/LinewtScreenShot.jpg > Also attached. The weights
aren't consistent as shown and do not seem to chg when selected and redefined.

For example I notice that I can click on and use the Obj Box to redefine a
line w/ arrows, but not w/ dashes or lineweights. Cannot find a setting that
would chg this (and wish could some how turn this new feature off for the old
FH10 way (which I abandoned b/c I lost a recent chapter and was told in another
post may be an inherent bug in that version -- it may also have been the
embedded images, number of pages, and/or file size.

At any rate, if this is not common then it's me....I was just hoping there was
some simple lineweight visibility switch.

Thx once again for any help.

/D

Yes, your problem is not understanding the Objects panel. Clicking on the
stroke icon adds another stroke. When you want to edit a stroke weight,
click on the stroke in the attributes list. I will look something like
Stroke: Basic, 1 pt

In your example, you have many black strokes of varying weights attached to
a single path. Because they are all the same color, you will see the weight
of the widest. To fix your document, if your Normal style is a 1 point path,
set the path back to Normal style, highlight the stroke in the Object panel.
Set the stroke weight.

Do not add another stroke to a path unless you need it for a specific
purpose, such as wide black stroke topped with a narrow red stroke to
represent a highway on a map.

When working in documents that need specific stroke widths, I like to
create styles. I edit the style to apply to strokes only, so that I can
apply a specific stroke to any object without changing the object's fill.

Judy

Yes, I see what you mean and now that Obj Box makes (some) sense.

Thx again for your help...
