Default read write error printing to PDF with FH10 and vista

I just moved to my new Vista Ult 64bit machine and needed to bring my old(er)
Freehand 10 app and files with me. I need to print to PDFs from Freehand and
cannot do so at present, could find not tips at Adobe site either. (Using
export to PDF gives me fuzzy text and other probs, therefore I print to PDF).
From Freehand10, I select print and as printer Adobe PDF (or PDF creator from
Source Forge, same problem) and the pdf creation begins, a pdf file name is
requested and then comes the error message "could not complete the command
because read or write access has been denied." A log file is presented on
screen:
%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: --nostringval-- ]%%
Stack:
false
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %

I did indeed use explorer to extra click on the destination folder and check
the read write access, the check box is always blue but without a check, I
de-select it anyway and choose apply. no change in behavior observed however. I
am administrator and have admin rights.

I have the same error when I use the PDF maker from SOurce Forge, I tried
installing Foxit (saw suggested on this site) but Foxit Creator Installer says
it cannot install in 64 bit environemnt and terminates.)

Adobe does not officially support Freehand anymore, but luckily it seems to
nevertheless work under vista for my uses (installed on 32bit programs), except
for this print to pdf printer problem.

Advice greatly appreciated!

This is the reliable way to create a pdf from FreeHand file. (Never use PDF export in print production)

Put anything, like the word 'whatever', to the 'UserPrep file' filed in Preferences > Export.
