Learning FreeHand now may not be completely waste of time but being not very compatible with OSX, outdated even years ago and discontinued by Adobe FreeHand is not necessarily the best choice. On the other hand it is still usable and if you master one graphic program it is easy to master any other.

Demo avaiilable here http://www.adobe.com/products/freehand/

The Freehand Source has always been a good source. http://www.freehandsource.com

Making tutorials is always good way to learn but it is best to soon try to make something from the scratch. It will take a lot of time and may be frustrating at times but you'll learn a lot more. FreeHand help file and manual are very good sources and it is good to learn how to use them from the start. As memory serves there is a few tutorials too.

I wouldn't bother. As mentioned, Freehand is no longer made and I think it was
replaced by Adobe Illustrator. There seems to be far more support (even though
this forum is a great help) for Illustrator, and why bother learn an outdated
and from what I can so far see, a harder program to learn than illustrator.
