I'm using Freehand MX 11.02 on Mac OS X 10.4.11 and it keeps on quitting on me

Are you doing any specific task when the crash occurs? A technote here lists
a few reported causes of crashes.

Are you opening or saving files directly to a server? That's not
recommended practice. It is vastly safer to copy files to your local hard
drive, edit, save to hard drive. Then use the OS to copy to the server.

Hi Judy,

It crashes when it feels like it , it will be working fine then the next minute it will die . I am working off files on my local machine .

FH rarely crashes for me (also on FHMX 11.0.2, Mac OS 10.4.11).

It's easy to assume that the kind of tasks we do in FreeHand are the kind
that everyone else is doing. However, you might be doing something that I
never do, such as importing very large images, or using raster effects at
high resolution. I suggest that you save often and keep a list of the last
couple of things you did before the crash occurred. See if you can find a
pattern.

Here are some things that have triggered crashes for me. In my case it
usually happens when trying to edit client-supplied artwork.

- Using Find & Replace Text on text that has been copied and pasted from
another application
- Editing objects or colors imported from another application
- A corrupt element, such as a motif or logo, that is used in several files,
will cause FH to crash when the corrupt element is moved or edited.

I had instances of FH 11.02 crashing as well. I found out that it was happening
on older files that I was updating and revising over the years. What I did was
create a New document and then Copy/Paste in the old document. Also I
discovered that OpenType fonts were being used in those older FH docs. In this
case OT Myriad Pro, so I replaced with a standard version. No more crashes.

Hope this helps.

I forgot about another reason for FHMX on Mac OSX to crash. If the Styles
and Layers panels are grouped, some sequences of edits can trigger a crash.
