Default First time install, need a little help.

I just installed the latest ubuntu, and downloaded the latest flex builder for
linux. Now I have no idea where to go from here. It says JDK and Eclipse are
required to install flex builder, I have neither of those yet. Honestly I have
not used linux before but very interested. Can you point me in the right
direction...install eclipse first? Jdk first? Which version of each would I
need? And a short summary of how to install them!!

I got java and eclipse installed. I installed Flex, but at the end it said
there were errors and I can view them in the log. I installed logged in as as
root, so it installed to root/FlexBuilder, is this ok...I was not sure so I
left it at the default. I think the problem is when it asked for a
configuration path for eclipse...I left this at default because I couldnt even
find eclipse, not sure how to browse directories yet. So when I find the
eclipse directory, how can I point flex to the configuration folder? I am
thinking to just uninstall Flex, find the path to eclipse and reinstall Flex
with the right path. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction on
this? It only took 5 hours to get java and eclipse installed...

If Flex Builder is properly installed then in Eclipse, under File - New there
should be an option 'Flex Builder'.

If you can't find it then lets check if Builder was installed into the right
eclipse environment. In Eclipse under the Help menu there should be an option
"About Adobe Flex Builder Linux".

If you can't find neither then Flex Builder is not properly installed.
What version of Java? I'm using Eclipse 3.3 and sun jdk-1.6.0.
