Thanks mab-bomb, but that discussion focuses on manipulating wave files.

MIDI is a well establish serial protocol. Therer are certain MIDI messages for
triggering existing sample or synth libraries, playing notes of various pitch,
on specific instruments ... and even sound effects from effect libraries.

It's powerful, well established technology that Adobe has entirely ignored to
date. ActionScript can't even load and play a MIDI file. To do that you have to
call JavaScript or use some other bridge. Playing MIDI files would be a good
first step, but ideally Adobe will provide us with methods for the full range
of MIDI messages.

I really don't understand why Adobe is sooooo late to the MIDI party.
