Default Strange behavior with x86_64 Flash and Firefox 3.0.4

I've already posted in the "Thanks! 64 bit Flash!" thread
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforu...id=72&catid=67
5&threadid=1406324&enterthread=y, about my 64 bit libflashplayer.so not working
or showing up as a plugin in aboutlugins, even though it's in
..mozilla/plugins/ and I've restarted Firefox quite a few times, but thought a
more descriptive title and some other facts might help:

Obv., using 64-bit Flash Player 10 alpha for Linux, released on November 17,
2008
Firefox, v3.0.4
Red Hat EL4 WS (Nahant Update 7)
Linux 2.6.9-78.0.5.ELsmp #1 SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux

It's very frustrating because now I can't even find an older libflashplayer.so
to make nspluginwrapper work again!

Thanks for any advice.

I've got copies of the libflashplayer.so from the tar.gz in all of the
following places, and still no Flash working or showing up in aboutlugins:

[Q][marilyn@whitney ~]$ ls -la .mozilla/plugins/
total 9340
drwxrwxrwx 2 marilyn users 4096 Nov 20 14:56 .
drwx------ 5 marilyn users 4096 Nov 20 14:46 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 marilyn users 9525320 Nov 20 14:56 libflashplayer.so
[marilyn@whitney ~]$ ls -la /usr/lib64/browser-plugins/
total 9412
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 21 13:31 .
drwxr-xr-x 96 root root 73728 Nov 21 13:30 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9525320 Nov 21 13:31 libflashplayer.so
[marilyn@whitney ~]$ ls -la /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/
total 9340
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 21 13:38 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Sep 19 18:48 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9525320 Nov 20 15:10 libflashplayer.so
[marilyn@whitney ~]$ ls -la /usr/lib64/firefox-3.0.4/plugins/
total 9368
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 21 13:40 .
drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Nov 19 18:15 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9525320 Nov 21 13:40 libflashplayer.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 24064 Nov 5 10:55 libnullplugin.so
[marilyn@whitney ~]$[/Q]

The null plugin isn't enabled of course (though I did try enabling it in
about:config, and it made no difference on revealing the Flash plugin).

WTF? I have absolutely no idea what's going on or what to do next (aside from
going back to nswrapper, but like I said, I can't find old flashplayer.so files
to make it work). I guess I could reboot the machine, but that seems stupid
and Windowsy.

Go to about:config and set 'plugin.expose_full_path' to 'true' for aboutlugins to show where it's loading all of your other plugins from. Make sure the .so file is in one of those directories.

Thanks for the idea, but I already have that option set to true -- the other
plugins are in the directories I listed above, /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/ and
/usr/lib64/firefox-3.0.4/plugins/, and they also have libflashplayer.so in
them. And yet, there is no sign of it, no matter how many times I restart
Firefox or refresh the page.

It's extremely depressing!
