Hi,
I created a path with the pen tool, and want the other side to look identical
so I duplicated the path then flipped the line so it makes the right shape,
however i want to join the two lines so the point of each actually becomes one
(letting me complete the shape with a 3rd side and fill it with colour). Does
anyone know how I can do this?

Select both Paths, then
Modify > Combine Paths > Join menu command

You also have access to Path commands via the Window > Others > Path Panel for easy onscreen access Path operations.
