Default All of my Fireworks files have changed to images

I've been using Fireworks for awhile and have saved a ton of important files as
PNG's. Never had any problems until now. When I launch FW MX2004, every
single file looks like a PNG image, which makes it impossible to edit my old
files. Even old files that I know were editable from backup CD's are not
opening correctly.

The only thing I can think of that is changed is that I recently installed
Photoshop Elements onto my HP notebook. But it doesn't seem right that it
would change the way an older piece of software looks at files.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Brian

Could you upload a couple of those files to a Web site so we can try to
open them and see if the problem is limited to your FW install or if the
files themselves have indeed been flattened somehow?
