Default Captivate 3 / SABA LMS issue

Hello,

We are experiencing some problems when viewing a course on a SABA LMS.
The course contains two topics. The topics have been developped with Captivate
3. We have published them with the SCORM 1.2 package in zip format. The g_nAPI
variable has been updated to 1 in the scorm_support.js file. Version of Flash
Player : 9.

The import of the Captivate files to the LMS went fine.
Now when we try to view the topic from the SABA LMS, we get the following
error message:

"Internet Explorer Script Error

An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Line : 170
Char : 4
Error : Object expected
Code : 0
URL : file://C:\Program Files\Saba\Saba Offline
Player\OfflinePlayer\store\content_directory\63360 4578645863591

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?"

Any hint?

Thank you ;-)

Just a guess, but it sounds like your SCORM package may not be set up to SABA's
liking

Probably something missing from the imsmanifest.xml file that SABA is
expecting, but not finding (hence "Object expected").

Have you tried downloading the SCORM conformance test suite and validated that
your SCORM package is correct?

It can be a pain in the rear to install and use, but until you know your SCORM
package is valid, you can't yell at SABA to fix their product. :smile;

I believe the conformance test suite for SCORM 1.2 can be found here:

John

Hello,

1) We have tested the package with the test suite mentionned above. We get the
following feedback:
The manifest instance is well formed
ERROR: DataTypeError: ID 'PACDIV_English_07_SelCritSimple_Captivate' has to be
unique.
ERROR: The manifest instance is NOT valid

We have the same error message also if we test a Captivate file generated and
published with Captivate v.1.14, and which gives no error on our LMS SABA.
Any hint?

2) We would like to know if the fact that the package tested has been
generated with Captivate v.1.14, then converted to Captivate 3 and published
with Captivate 3, could explain our error message.

Thank you, and have a nice week-end.

Are you uploading the standard.js file along with the other published files
that make up your course?

The HTM page that Captivate creates to hold your published movie requires the
ridiculously-short line of code in standard.js or it will fail.

Some LMS products don't let you upload extra files, so sometimes a script
error such as yours is an indication that the standard.js file is not being
used.

Hello,

The import to the LMS is done using the zip file, so all files it contains get
loaded.
Besides:
1) I can run from SABA a compliance test and my individual zip files are
correct.
2) I can play from SABA an individual module
3) However, when I assemble several modules in one course, I can start the
course, but the modules will not run. I get a white window with no contents.
Trying to preview from the SABA packaging tool gives error message above.

I have noticed that the SCORM package produced with Captivate v.3 contains
more files than the Captivate 1.1 SCORM package. I don't know why.

Any hint to ge me out of this issue?

Thanks.

I'm afraid I don't have a clue about SABA, although I suspect the problem may
be due to the way you're "assembling several modules in one course".

Captivate projects published as SCORM are assumed to be single-SCO courses.
You typically need a 3rd-party tool to compile multiple Captivate projects into
a single SCORM course.

My hunch is that your "assembly" process is breaking something. How and what
I cannot say, but that's my guess.

John

Hello,

Sorry, but I dont think this comes from our LMS; the SABA LMS has inside it a
special compiler to compile multiple Captivate projects into a single SCORM
course.
With this compiler, I can display contents for courses containing several
Captivate modules if they are created with Captivate 1.01.1418; if the
Captivate projects are created with Captivate 3, it does not work.
I am using the same LMS to create the single courses, whatever is the version
of Captivate behind. So the fault is not on the LMS.

For me the problem comes from Captivate 3, maybe there is one parameter which
is not set up correctly.

If someone already had same type of experience... any suggestion, tip, etc. it
would be very nice.

Hello,

Finally we found the solution: the problem was in SABA
When packaging the course, the system generates a zip files with all the
separate Captivate modules in it. At that time, an option has to be unchecked,
it's called "Smart Extraction".

Hope it will help somebody...

:smile;
