Default FTP Error Occurred - Cannot make connection

I've been receiving this message:
"An ftp error occurred - cannot make connection to host. Your login or
password is incorrect. Please check your connection information."
when trying to set-up and download active websites originally built in
FrontPage. Do Dreamweaver & FrontPage not play well with each other? Why would
that affect my being able to connect to my websites via Dreamweaver? I have
double and triple checked the logins and passwords. They are correct. Also, I
have no problem setting up and uploading a new site.

Remote Info Site Definition Settings:
Access: FTP
FTP host: www.mywebsite.com
Host directory: blank
Login: my login
Password: my password
I've:
tried with passive FTP checked and unchecked
tried with Secure FTP checked and unchecked
Unchecked FTP performance Optimization in Server Compatibility

Thanks to anyone who can help

No. My sites that I created originally in Dreamweaver work and connect fine. I've compared the settings and I have them set the same. It's driving me nuts, to say the least!!
