You can download the the 2005 trial and use the new Management Studio
interface for your existing 2000 databases...thats what I do, its great,
apart from not doing any Jobs or DTS.

Really? I've had that for a few years. Never realized that it could be
used with the old version.

I've been using this old crappy Enterprise manager. I should have tried
the new version...Man!...

Thanks! I will give it a whirl.

Steve,

I have the Visual Studio 2005. If you also have that, do you know where
the manager would be? I don't see it in the studio tools. Perhaps I just
need to download the manager?

It must be here somewhere.

I don't have Visual Studio 2005, all I did was download SQL 2005
Express, and part of that was the Management Studio for SQL Express.
Maybe the VS2005 Management Studio is different from the SQL Management
Studio?

Ok, I'll look for the express. Thanks

Warming up to it a little more.

So far the biggest plus is the CTRL R for "Execute Query"

I wonder if control R worked in Enterprise manager?

I'll have to check that.

Default CTRL R

yep, ctrl r worked in the old version.

If everything else fails with this new version, at least I came out with
the keyboard command...

You are using the Express version, it doesn't have import functions, as
SQL 2005 Express doesn't have import functions.

Pat, its a personal preference. I like the layout, the tools, the query
analyser, the work flow, the look, apart from the lack of jobs and dts,
its great for me.

Plus it lets me use a SQL 2005 express database locally for test purposes.

Default Import Tools

Is there really no way to import data into Express? That seems like one
of the most basic tools needed.

I'll probably keep experimenting with it just to get familiar with it. I
wonder if 2008 will also have some sort of "Express" version?
