I'd like to insert a weblink to one of the slides in a project. This should
allow a user/viewer to click the link which will open to that link in a separate page from the current project. Ability exists all over Adobe products and Microsoft software, but can't find it in Captivate - anyone? |

Welcome to our community, Nadine
Do you mean you want to link FROM a slide in Captivate to a web resource? Or do you mean the opposite? You want to link from a web page to perhaps slide 10 of a 30 slide Captivate? If you mean the former, that one is easy to do using a Click Box or Button object. If you mean the latter, it currently isn't possible without also having some Flash programming skills and knowledge of Captivate and the internal variables. Cheers... Rick :smile; |

Hi Guys,
Sorry i dont mean to highjack this thread, and if you want me to ask on a seperate one pls let me know, I have a similar question which may help the oiriginal poster: I want to have a link to an external site FROM my Captivate course. I've done this using a button and this works fine when i'm previewing the course in Captivate, but when i preview in a web browser nothing happens. Does anyone know the reason for this? Thanks, Charlie |

Hi Charlie
Probably Flash Security settings holding you back. See if the tutorial linked below helps you work past it. http://www.robowizard.com/RoboWizard...shSettings.htm Cheers... Rick :smile; |

Thanks for your reply Rick,
I've added the location where the files are saved to my 'allowed' list, and it doesnt seem to have an affect, It's a final slide of a presentation, and on this slide i've got a click box which is used to send a mail. This works fine. I've tried using both a click box, and a button to launch this webpage, but nothing happens when i preview in a browser. When i open it through Captivate it works perfectly, Do you have any other suggestions as to what may be the problem, Thanks!! Charlie |

Hey Rick,
I've actually tried this again and it worked! Thanks a million! I think alot more problems arise for me on this one now though. This is going to be rolled out to my entire organisation. I've already tested on a few machines and they were having the same problems as i was. Is it likely that every machine will have to go through this process, Is there anything i can do on my end to avoid this? Is it possible to insert a simple hyperlink as you would do on an email for instance? Sorry for all the questions! I thought i had a decent handle on Captivate, until i started using it properly!! Thanks, Charlie |

Hi Charlie
Are you planning on each user copying the Captivate to their own PC and running from there? If so, you may have a concern. But if your plan involves placing the Captivate content on a server and having the user access it from a URL or link you will provide, you shouldn't have any security issues on the user's end because coming from a server they are automagickally in a "safe" zone from the perspective of the Flash Player. So if you haven't, give it a test after you place on a server. Assuming, of course, that you are planning to go that route. Cheers... Rick :smile; |

Thanks a million Rick, i'll test this tomorrow and see what the story is,
The email problem i was having was also solved by updating my flash settings. Hopefully things will work once i put this up on sharepoint, Thanks so much mate, you've been a big help, |

:brokenheart;:camera; Hi Rick, I had the same problem described by Charlie. I
followed the tutorial and it corrected the problem. The next step was to publish to Sharenet (the web). The link no longer works. The plan is to have users access the material via a link to the web location then when complete go to another web location via the inserted link to report their participation. This won't work if each has to update their security. Any ideas? This seems to be a basic issue with adding a link for others to use. Appreciate any help you can offer. Scott |
