Default rtf update problem

Using rtf functions, I rtfcreate then rtfshow a document that contains
variables. When i press a button, the variables change and I use rtfupdate to
show them in the doc on the screen. It works swimmingly in authoring mode.

When I publish it, the doc gets created and shown. When I press the button,
the variables change, and rtfupdate returns "1" -- BUT the doc on my screen
remains the same instead of reflecting the changes as it does in authoring mode.

Any idea why the different behavior? I chose to design the piece based on what
I was doing successfully in authoring mode only to be thwarted by this
unanticipated glitch.

I appreciate your time!

Jeff
