Default External Media won't publish

I have inherited an application from someone and I have fixed all of the
problems and am going to publish the piece. When I run the application in
Authorware, all of the media files play and it looks great. If I go to
Window>External Media, everything is showing up as linked properly. It does
not appear that I have any broken links. When I go to publish the application
for the web, I am getting warnings. On almost all of the videos, I get the
following message:
"Copying moviename.wmv.
Warning: moviename.wmv does not exist."

I can not figure out why my videos will not copy. I have a couple that
complete successfully, but I can't figure out what is different about those
files. They are all wmv files and are all in the same location. I have
unlinked my publish settings more times than I care to remember. I have tried
copying all of my icons to a new file and publishing from a new file. It
continues to do the same thing. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Amanda

An update to this that I just discovered... If I go through Window>External
Media, there is no broken link to any video. In my publish settings, when I
look under "Files", the link shows up as broken. If I navigate to the file
through "Source" and locate the video, the video is still showing with a broken
link icon.

Are you referencing those files with variables?

Amy,

No. I'm not using variables to reference any of the videos.

Are your files in a relatively deep path? For instance, are your Work files
in your My Documents folder, perhaps in a subfolder of that?

If so, maybe Authorware is choking on the path length - especially if your
movie files have some long filenames too.

Try moving the whole project to a less-deep folder structure, like C:\work

Steve,

I tried a couple variations of this because I remembered that Authorware had a
limit to the number of characters in a path and I have exceeded that in the
past. I moved everything to c:\VFTX and the movies went to
c:\VFTX\media\<moviename>.wmv. This still didn't work. I also changed the
name of one of the movies that didn't work to something shorter because the
couple movies that were working had shorter filenames. It still gave me the
same warning. I can't figure out what this could be that is causing my issue.

There is no "Try Again" option for the SystemMessageBox function. Retry is
actually 4.

What I have noticed is that when I run the piece and get to one of the videos
that won't publish, it opens up a search box and it is asking me to find the
file. It is looking for an mpg when the file is a wmv. Does this mean
anything or is this just the Authorware default?

If that's what you see, and you are absolutely certain it should be locating
a wmv, then I would assume there is a corruption.

Delete the offending movie icon and reimport the video to a brand new icon.
