Default Memory full error in AW7

I am working on an Authorware file that includes a quiz written with the KO
template supplied. Something is causing the file to stall the second time I
run it. Alternately, it sometimes refuses to open at all and I get an error
message claiming that the computer memory is full. This is not true. It does
the same thing on several other computers: It runs ok the first time through
and then problems. If I change the name of the file, it opens! I found a
tech note to defrag and repair, which I did, but it didn't help

This sounds like .rec file problem to me. (search your "Documents and
Settings" folder for *.rec to find where they are) Is the file set to
'Resume' where it left off? Try running the file then delete the .rec file
and then run the file again. If it runs the second time without error, then
run a third time but leave the .rec file in place. If it errors when the
..rec file is there then the .rec file isn't be re-loaded properly. Run
through all your variables and make sure you have the right variable initial
types for your variables. In almost every case the system will take care of
variable types changing as necessary. But I have noted some problems with
list types. If it starts as a number and then gets changed to a list it may
cause a problem like this.

Thanks for the rec tip. Something else I discovered is that the computer
remembers the name of the authorware file that gets the memory error message.
If I change the name in the folder, the file will open. If I change the name
back to its original name, it give an error message again. If I keep inventing
new names, I can open it. What does it all mean?!!!

The rec file is linked to the filename. Kill the rec file then you don't
need to keep making up new names.

By the way ...

filename01
filename02
filename03 ...

Kinda hard to run out of names ;-)

ODBC stands for Open Database Connectivity. Authorware uses ODBC through
functions in the ODBC.u32 file. Is there a specific error that you're
seeing? What is it? What's happening in the file when it occurs?

I see, now, that the ODBC screen is just a message that might come up if there
is a problem. It lives in a quiz navigation group of icons created by the quiz
template. I'm not too worried about it.

Thanks, Steve and Mike for your help with the *.rec files and the "Resume"
problem. I nolonger get the memory full error. I am still having trouble with
the quiz stalling the second time the user tries to take the test. The first
question comes up and works, but the button that is supposed to take the user
to the second question doesnt work.

This test was built with the Quiz KO? If I remember right that code was
written as a once only thing. You can't run it twice or have more than one
of them in a file. Some variables require resetting when you reuse a quiz. I
don't know the whole list but it might turn up with a search of Quiz KO and
Initialize
